 AFRRS

NewsVE6BRW writes "I just attended A GOA meeting in Grande Prairie about the new AFRRS system that will be comming into Alberta.  They're goal will be to stat with a P25 phase I system and end up with a P25 phase II system,  so all of those that are running conventional scanners....well bad news you won't be able to listen to any of the services that will be on the new system.  ie: RCMP, Fire depts, Ambulance service, GOA like Fish&Wildlife, Sheriffs, Forestry etc...   I've already converted and getting ready for it to come into effect.  (ICOM 2500PCR c/w P25 & digital boards)"

Blizzard warning for: Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield

Weather
Blizzard warning for: Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield
Issued at 3:30 PM MDT SUNDAY 20 APRIL 2008
HEAVY SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS TONIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING.
A DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN IS TRACKING NORTHWARDS AND THEN WESTWARDS TOWARDS CENTRAL ALBERTA OVERNIGHT INTO MONDAY. WARM MOIST AIR ALOFT WRAPPING AROUND THE LOW WILL CONTINUE TO GENERATE HEAVY SNOW IN REGIONS ALONG THE ALBERTA- SASKATCHEWAN BORDER WHERE SOME AREAS MAY SEE LOCAL AMOUNTS OF 30 TO 50 CENTIMETRES BY MONDAY. THE RED DEER AND DRUMHELLER REGIONS CAN SEE LOCAL AMOUNTS OF 10 TO 20 CENTIMETRES BY MONDAY. IN ADDITION THIS SYSTEM IS PRODUCING STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS THAT WILL CONTINUE TO GENERATE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS IN THE BROOKS, MEDICINE HAT, CYPRESS HILLS, AND CORONATION REGIONS AND EASTERN SECTIONS OF THE LETHBRIDGE REGIONS. CONDITIONS SHOULD GRADUALLY IMPROVE IN MOST OF THE BLIZZARD WARNED REGIONS OVERNIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING AS SNOWFALL TAPERS OFF AND WINDS DIMINISH. THIS SYSTEM IS ALSO PRODUCING BLOWING SNOW AND DRIFTING SNOW IN THE RED DEER AND DRUMHELLER REGIONS GIVING POOR VISIBILITY OVER WIDESPREAD AREAS TONIGHT INTO MONDAY.

PLEASE REFER TO THE LATEST PUBLIC FORECASTS FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

One dead as blast rips biodiesel plant in High River

NewsAnonymous writes "
CALGARY - A 33-year old male is dead following an explosion at a biodiesel plant near High River.
Barrie Harrison, spokesman for Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, said the incident occurred at 11:50 a.m. today, approximately 5 kilometres west of High River at Western Biodiesel Inc.

"All we know right now is that a worker was welding a biodiesel tank when the tank exploded. He was killed on site," Harrison said.
RCMP secured the site until OHS officers arrived. OHS officials will conduct an investigation, which is expected to take months, he said.

Officials with the company, Western Biodiesel, would not comment on the incident
